Enid Frights Up the Plains!

The Enid Frights Up the Plains Halloween festival will be held on the Garfield County Courthouse lawn Friday, October 31, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There is no fee to attend.

“We had the Scare on the Square for many years and it eventually outgrew its necessity,” said Tammy Wilson, coordinator of the event.

“When we started it, there wasn’t much else going on for Halloween but after several years, so many other things were popping up that it became hard to compete with everything else and it was just time to give it a break. I’ve attempted to do Halloween festivities a couple of other times, but either the weather didn’t cooperate or we just couldn’t get the participation needed to make it work. Something seemed different this year and I thought we’d give it another shot. Since I announced it, quite a few people have signed up to have booths to hand out candy. People seem more eager this year to bring it back. We definitely need more, though,” Wilson said.

The event consists of businesses, organizations, groups, or people that will have booths – preferably decorated – set up on the courthouse lawn where kids can trick or treat, costume contests, a Halloween Queen pageant, a best apple or pumpkin recipe contest, and a jack-o-lantern contest. The categories for the costume contests are 0-5, 6-12, 13-18, adult, and group. To enter the recipe contest, the item can be brought to the event along with a copy of the recipe and the entrant’s name and contact information. Carved jack-o- lanterns can also be brought to the event with the entrant’s name and contact information. The Halloween Queen pageant will be for ladies over 18 that embody the spirit and look of Halloween. They’ll be judged on their answers to some questions and their costume.

“We are still looking for folks to hand out candy as well as donations of candy,” said Wilson. “Candy can be brought to Jezebel’s Emporium and Tea Room at 121 E. Broadway. If anyone wants to be a vendor, there’s no fee if they bring candy. If they don’t, there’s a $40 fee that will go to help cover costs of the festival and candy. If anyone’s feeling super generous, we’d be incredibly grateful for any help as this is a grassroots effort with essentially no budget. This is solely for the city to have a fun, safe, community oriented Halloween.”

If you’d like to have a booth,  donate, or volunteer in any way, Wilson can be contacted at (580) 402-6732 or tammy@enidevents.com.
